I present two sides of one coin with this month’s Mandala: Routine. We’re reminded that “routine” is neither good nor bad. It just is.

One Side of the Coin:

If we find ourselves in the same old “routine”, patterns, rut, habits, etc, this month’s mandala encourages us to break out of it! We create habits, routines, to help simplify our lives. Left unchecked, though, we seem to operate on automatic pilot, missing little surprises along the way that help us wake up out of routine’s trance.

When we change up our routines we gain a different perspective and insight. We can start with the little things, like:

  • changing the route we take to go to work or our favorite stores
  • changing up the order in which we do our morning or evening “routines”
  • doing simple tasks with our non-dominant hand
  • ordering something new from the menu instead of our usual
  • changing the order of the silverware drawer

You get the idea.

The Other Side of the Coin:

If on the other hand, we find ourselves always scattered, doing a lot of things and yet very little seems to be accomplished, or always feeling unsure as to what to do next, this month’s mandala encourages us to stop where we are, stop what we’re doing, to give ourselves a reality check. When we lack focus or direction, creating routines for ourselves can help put forth a clear path as to what happens next.

For instance if working from home, declare to the household and follow through on designated work-hour times. Purposely change into clothes that give the sense of being at work (it can be casual clothing, just set the intention that these are “work” clothes).

If dealing with too much clutter, set a routine to spend 15 minutes a day decluttering one small section of an area at a time.

In Essence

This month’s mandala encourages both sides of the coin to be in balance: where there’s disorder and confusion – create routine; where there’s a sense of being in a rut – change up the routine.

This Month’s Inspiration

“One travels to run away from routine, that dreadful routine that kills all imagination and all our capacity for enthusiasm.” ~ Ella Maillart

“A schedule defends from chaos and whim. It is a net for catching days. It is a scaffolding on which a worker can stand and labor with both hands at sections of time.” ~ Annie Dillard

Ponder this while coloring this month’s mandala.

Happy Coloring!
